Why become a Virtual Assistant?

While there are many reasons to choose to become a Virtual Assistant, I want to talk to you about the five I hear most often. In case you aren’t quite sure what a Virtual Assistant actually is, I wrote a separate article covering that!

Ready? Here they are, in no particular order:

1. FreedomĀ – Many people choose entrepreneurship because they desire to be their own boss. The freedom of working for yourself means that you begin to work for your own dreams instead of someone else’s. You’re the person who gets to make all of the business decisions, and quite frankly, that’s pretty thrilling! Freedom from the regular workforce opens you up to a whole new world of creatives and online communities that you might not have even previously known existed.

2. Flexibility – When you’re the only person making the rules, the corporate standard of the 9-5, eight hour workday falls by the wayside. Not a morning person? Then you don’t have to work in the morning. Crave a 30 hour work week? Build that! Plus, being a virtual assistant has the beauty of being a location-independent job, which means as long as there’s internet, you can work from pretty much anywhere in the world. It opens you up to the possibility of traveling much more often, if that’s what you want!

3. Satisfaction – Here’s the cool thing about being a Virtual Assistant: you only have to accept clients who have tasks for you that you absolutely LOVE to do. Wherever your skills lie, whatever your professional interests are, you can make those things into the services you’ll offer your clients. That means as you wrap up every workday, you’ll be able to close that laptop feeling fully satisfied with your work and excited to get up and start again the next day.

4. Fulfillment – Working from home eliminates the dreaded commute. I just had someone say to me today, “I commute one hour each way to work. Even if I chose to work 40 hours at home, that would put 10 hours back into my week that I could spend however I want rather than being stuck on a train.” How much time could YOU get back in your life and how do you see yourself spending it? Becoming a Virtual Assistant makes space in your life for the things you love to do outside of work, too.

5. Easily Transferable Skills – Whatever job(s) you’ve held previously, you’ve been developing skills. Since the possibilities for what you can offer as a Virtual Assistant are practically endless, that means whatever skills you already have could be put to use creating remote services for your new clients. Some of the most common skills VAs are using are organization, proofreading/grammar, copywriting, scheduling, and customer service. Even if those aren’t your particular skills, you certainly have ones that could benefit other online entrepreneurs!

Sound interesting? Try it on for size. Here’s a freebie that will get you picturing your dream lifestyle, and how becoming a Virtual Assistant might fit into that picture – a lifestyle within your reach!
